Entry 7: End of Term, It’s the last Project
Aww… can you believe we already end our terms? We just presented our
project this morning. And I feel kind of sad since there will be no more
creative class after this *unless I failed, well let’s hope not* because it’s
approaching finals. I don’t know it’s just that I already get used to group
project, out of the class and evaluate. Yeah what do you expect, Bell. You are
an IT students so why would you go out often, isn’t it? Now, this might be the
longest post? Since I am totally hyped up with this project, so it might.
Classroom redesign project. It is redesigning the classroom. Tell me who doesn’t
love it. I mean everyone have their own ideal classroom right? With personal
preferences and stuff, don’t you want to build a defined classroom?
Here it goes, for this project we have to brainstorm what criteria of
the classroom that we were in that was actually lacking in terms of giving an
ideal classroom environment. You want me to describe our class? Okay, imagine a
large classroom, with small size tables that are arrange 10 columns of tables
in 4 rows. That would make a 40 tables classroom, which was arrange next to
each other with only one exit. The classroom itself, is a gloomy classroom
since the lighting was not working properly, and it makes the whole class seems
sleepy and drowsy. How would you focus to study in an environment like that? Well
that is certainly our class for creative subject at 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm.
First of all, we described the whole class, and afterwards we pointed
out on what part should be improved and fixed to make a more friendly and
inviting classroom. We come out with a concept at first, well I suggested the Café
Classroom concept because I saw an article about café in Korea, which uses
library as a theme. It is called as Comma Café and the interior is very
library-alike. I will attach some pictures of the café later on. And it seems
really inviting and comfy to be in a place like that for study purpose and
relaxing when you are overdose in studying. Plus I am a coffee maniac so why
not, coffee is great at all time.
We then starts to sketch and puts up everything that we think we need in
a classroom that is themed as a café. Café bar, hmmm sounds enlighten isn’t it?
Then we comes up with more ideas on what to put in a classroom, but we did not
just simply put it there without any reasons. Hey, we are all students
ourselves, so what we decided was based on our experience as a student for a
solid 15 years. As the sketch was done, we have to do research on what kind of
classroom environment is actually suitable for learning to be essentials. Therefore
we did some research in the internet and we got exactly what we were looking
for. We extract the points and apply it in out project, and before us starts
with the prototype we go through all of it once again to ensure there’s no data
mistaken from the articles.
Fatin downloaded an application called as Sweet Home 3D and she
implements all of our final decision of our design to the application. It turns
out really well. Unfortunately, because of the limitations in what the software
can do, we have to step back from our plan to make our classroom as a café themed
class. Therefore Fatin changed it to a slightly simple design but it didn’t get
strayed from our main design. It was the U-shaped seat arrangement and resting area
that are the most important aspect in our design. We are aiming for a class
where all members can see everyone’s faces all the time, without being blocked
by anyone since the communication process can be done better in this part. Other
than that, bonding and chemistry between each members in the class can create a
more comfortable place for everyone.
What’s more important than creating bonding right? After the design was
complete, we worked on the report together, gaining and brainstorming every single
details from what we have done before together, and guess what, so many moments
happen during that. We spend most of our time together and lots of things that
we talked about, laughing, straining from grossness when things get funny, and all
of it becomes a wonderful memory. It might be hard if we do it alone, but what
we felt was completely different. I don’t know about the others but I have a
lot of fun while doing this project. You know the feels when you said something
that come across your mind and then the others were thinking the same thing
too, isn’t that wonderful? I mean it’s not always that you share and tells out
your opinions and suggestion to your friend in a sudden way right? So this
project definitely helps us in creating memories together. Like, whoa guys we
are having the same thing in mind right now so how is that even possible?
To conclude my not so interesting blog, I will say that this course,
this class, this subject is a very new thing to me, and it taught me a whole
new side of creativity. For someone who hates creativity like me, I might take
it back. Well I am taking it back. Creativity is not something like you invent
something new, and if it’s beautiful then it’s considered as creative. No that
is not it. More like you work on something that need improvement, which will
make a happy memory together. All this while, for almost 4 months learning this
subject, I am proud to say that I like this subject and how it affects me and
the bonding with my friends. We share mostly on what output that we get from
all this presentations and projects. On the very last of the presentation for
this term, we realize how much of great things we have gone through. I am
really thankful to our lecturer for letting us to have a taste of this great
course, great class and great experience and we will definitely not forget what
we learnt, because we put so much effort in this project to make it work and be
perform successfully. Since this is the last post, I will put up more photos as
a memorial tokens. Thank you ICT500.
Love, Bell 슈아.
Entry 6: Test changes to EVENTS?!
OHHHH GUYS! It was past term break already. And last week we done our
test. No it is not written test. Instead we were assigned to attend IT Week
exhibition and we have to make a report through online websites for the topic
that we are responsible to. So this time, it’s a group work, yet again, this
time consisting of 8 people. Wow. I was shocked. I don’t know, maybe because
this is the most people in the group so yeah, I was expecting it will be harder
to cooperate and so on. Actually, we were assigned as the group that will make
a report on IT Philanthrophy corner. There’s a guest that came and he is Syed
Azmi, a person who are famous in the Individual Charity Association.
Azirah and I was assigned to work as a reporter and we take notes about
every single thing that happened throughout the program. Being a reporter is a
lot harder than I imagine because if you got lost just for a second, then you
will be lost about the other thing that was explained later. And it was really
inconvenient. Thankfully that I am not working alone. Hasanah was responsible
as the photographer along with Aina. Aida and Aziemah were responsible as the
web designer and Naja and Rara were responsible as the editor of the project. The
on-event work was actually needed the reporter and photographer to come but our
designer and editor also participates as they need to be sure of what we
collect.
The reports are done successfully, and the website are already posted
and we have submitted the link to our lecturer as a proof. It was beautifully
created and all details are perfectly included. None of it was missing. It
feels real good because it was not a written test. Like, how can you even
remarks on our creativity if it’s a written test right? Well at least, this
event make us even more knowledgeable about the things that are currently
happening. So, yeah I think it’s a wonderful kind of test. *can I get more test
like this?*

Entry 5: Wallet Project
Hello! So I’m back yet with another interesting project that I want to
share. Have you ever heard of Wallet Project? Well, I bet you haven’t because it’s
my very first time of hearing it too. So the thing about this project is, it’s
time to show how creative you are, and how do you implement that critical
thinking you learnt before? Okay basically, this project requires 2 people
working together and then one as the customer and one as the designer.
There are more to this project since we need to know what does user
really wants from a wallet. Just imagine me as a wallet designer and one of my
friends as the customer who wants to customize her own wallet, and for this she
needs a designer to help turns her desired products into a reality. We are
provided with a guidebook of how to design a wallet, with defined steps in it
and it helps a lot in creating a define design for the product that is
requested from the customer.
How does this project work? Okay let me just go thoroughly, as a
designer I gain information from the customer on what they wants and what they
prefer for their wallet. After that I sketch a rough design and then the
process is being repeated for few times so that I can get an exact design
according to the user’s needs. For the other 3 members, each of them holds
different responsibilities. They check on whether the design holds up to what
the user described, and they are doing the analysis on the design.
In the end, the wallet was done perfectly and the user are satisfied
with the wallet that I designed as it meets her requirements on what should
have on her wallet, and what kind of feelings it will be able to spread out. I actually
tries really hard in creating and designing the wallet, and it was my first
time being serious about a design. It is much harder than it looks. I don’t think
I found any part of me being fond of designing yet, maybe in the next time. Who
knows, right?

Entry 4: 1st GROUP ASSIGNMENT.
Hi. I’m back. Well, guess what? We are assigned with a new assignment,
and it’s a group work. This time we will be examining the accessibility and
facilities for disable students in our campus. We were gathered in a group of 6
consisting of me, Aida, Joji, Fatin, Aina and Aziemah. So the 6 of us were task
to do research and evaluation about facilities in our faculty whether it is
suitable with disable students or it’s the opposite of that. Our lecturer let
us go out for an hour for us to examine the whole faculty and detect the lack
in providing disable friendly environment and to point out any features that
holds up to disable peoples.
As of then, we listed out the features and facilities that we think is
necessary for a faculty to have in order to provide a disable friendly
environment. For quick example, a flat disabled pathway for the usage of people
with walking disability, braille code at elevator’s button and so on. We then
take a very detailed look outside of the class since walk throughout whole CS2
and CS1 building and then we are back to CS2. There are so many lacking parts
in the faculty that may bring harms to disabled people since the facilities are
definitely not disable friendly at all. Even as an individual who are perfect
in all 5 sense, we get that we also have problems with the facilities. In short,
the facilities are mostly uncomfortable for the usage either disabled people or
even normal people.
Let me tells you how does the facilities in CS2 building works. So yeah,
we have the foyer in front of the main entrance, and first of all, the main
entrance is not disabled friendly since for people with wheelchair as there is
no disabled pathway for them and they will have a hard time in getting their
wheelchair passing the higher floor to enter the building. After that, there
are a lift provided to go to upper level, but the lift is so small that it
could fit only one person with wheelchair at a time. On top of that, the person
can’t even turn their wheelchair to face the door lift because the space was
too small that they can even barely move their wheelchair. There’s a disabled
pathway to go down the hallway but the pathway is too steep and it is very
dangerous for people with walking disability and wheelchairs since they might
go down too fast without any safety around them.
For CS1, we have a 4 level twin buildings which are connected at level 2
and 3. At the main building, we have a foyer and most of the class for the
students are mainly located at CS1. The major problem is, there is no
alternative for people with walking disability to go to the class at higher
level at all. There is no pathway made for disable students all around the
building. There is a lift located at level 1 of the building, but to go to the
lift, students will have to go up by stairs through the foyer and then another
stairs before they can even meet the lift’s buttons. How hard must it be for a
student with disability to continue and pursue their studies when the
facilities for them are very limited?
So from our evaluation and research, we come up with ideas on how to
improve the facilities in the faculty to make it more disabled friendly and
gives hopes to the students with disability. We did some research on how does
other countries applies disabled friendly environment in their campus, and surprisingly
there are a lot of institutional that are concerns about these kind of
students. Therefore, we did some editing and point out the places that are in
need for renovation so that these students can be more ease at heart every time
they go to their class. No more worrying about the difficulties to even get
themselves sitting in the class on time with their lacking in ability.
This assignment really helps me and my classmates realize on how
important it is for us to be concern about other people who didn’t share the
gift that we have, and for us to be grateful to be born with all senses
completely. Disabled people have the same desire like us, the normal people to
learn, to study and to excel in their life so why not we make it a better place
for them? This subject really teach me a lot of things, not just how to be
creative, but how critical thinking and creativity makes us a better person in
considering others who are lacking. With this assignment ended, I just hope
that this assignment will be keep used as a fix assignment so that our
generation will know on how important it is to be critical about things around
you.
Love, Bell 슈아.
Entry 3: 1st Individual Presentation
안녕! (That is ‘Annyeong’ which means hi
in Korean). Ooooookay so I did my presentation this morning. I talked about
Adat Perpatih, as what I mention before. Guess what? As soon as it’s my turn to
present, most of them thought I’ll be talking about Korea already -.- okay. So
they were totally wrong ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ ~~
I am glad enough that I chose this as my topic, because Madam Fariza
seems curious about it too, and also most of my classmates. I told you, people
are so stereotype about this culture. Well, most of Malaysian’s mentality are
like that, stereotyping this culture when they does not know most of the facts.
Therefore let me take this chance to clear my classmates thought about Adat
Perpatih.
I started with telling the fact that I myself was born in Adat Perpatih
bloodline, and that we are still holding up to that culture. Of course, not
100% are still being preserve until now, but in daily life or some strict
rules, yes we still hold up to it. I continued with stating the fact about
marriage between men and women from the same culture, the same bloodline, what happen
if there’s divorcement between men and women, either from Adat Perpatih or not.
What people thinks about Adat Perpatih was, anyone who marry to a girl
born in Adat Perpatih, if they divorced one day in the future, the whole wealth
from the men will belong to the women. Okay that part is true, but not true
enough. There’s a missing part in that statement that makes people have been
stereotyping Adat Perpatih all this while. IF a men who was born in Adat
Perpatih, marries a women from Adat Perpatih, one day IF they divorce, then the
men’s wealth will belong to the women. If the men is born in Adat Temenggung,
then there is nothing for them to be afraid of since that rule does not applies
to them.
That was the argument part in my topic. Whether the wealth will change
to the women side if they divorce. Great argument, which have been haunting the
mind and mentality of most Malaysians. I am so happy that I get the chance to
be confidence enough to talk in front of my classmate, on top of that I got to
clear their misunderstandings about my culture. Madam Fariza also seems
satisfied and she said that it is good to go back to your root, knowing where
and what you are, knowing yourself. Thanks to this assignment that I got to do
such things. I am anticipating our next assignment already, it’s fascinating.
Love, Bell 슈아.
Entry 2: More Individual Assessment.
Hi. I’m back. This time I am back with another entry. Need to admit that
I am quite enjoying this class. As of all, this subject is the least that gives
me headache if compared to the others. Even language subjects are harder than
this honestly. Okay so last entry I said about our assignment right? Well I
have successfully submitted our 1st assignment, without any
obstacles. What’s sure is I definitely being honest in that assignment. Not
that I am not honest in others, but yeah that was like 100% honesty from my
heart.
We received another assignment from Madam Fariza. It’s a public
speaking. Okay one thing that I like about this subject is that it match with
the course’s name, the “Critical” part for sure. It is critical for someone to
get out of their comfort zone and be prepare with anything possible, most
likely things that they have credibility or are interested with to be presented
as their speech. Now, getting out from the comfort zone with suitable topic is
one thing, but the most critical part for me is, ‘Am I ready to stand before
everyone to let out my voice?’ is what echoed through my head.
As for the topic, it must be something that can be argued with. Since
the subtopic related with this assignment is ‘Argument’, for sure there must be
at least one argument that people can come up with. I got a few topics in my
head but most of them are about Korea, K-pop and so on therefore I guess it
might be boring or some people might feel annoyed over my overly interest
manner towards that side of the world. End up I went all way back to my root,
thinking that it’s better for me to dig a little into my background. I come up
with the Nature of Adat Perpatih and People’s Perception on It.
I already knew some of the fact about Adat Perpatih since I am born in
that bloodline but not much of it comes crystal clear to me. There are still
few things that I myself don’t understood and for other to not be stereotype
with my culture, it is better for me to understand it first before anyone else.
Thanks to this assignment, I get to know more about my culture than before and
make me understand on the causal of existence of this culture.
There’s not much that I want to talk about this time, but I am
definitely enjoying my time for this class. I will describe it as a class where
most of us feel a bit more relax than we are in other classes (well yeah I am
not sure about everyone else but I guess so). Still until now, I am not yet
sure about what is IT. Let’s just hope I will be able to figure it out one day.
Love, Bell 슈아.
Entry 1: Unexpected Subject.
Creative. That word itself made me cringe my fingers already. Honestly,
there’s two things in the world that I am not really fond of. 1; a strange dark
place. 2; CREATIVE. Well, let just say that I am a very non creative person.
People might thought that kids mostly love to enjoy drawings and such things at
an early age, but in contrast of that, I am so not fond in any kind of arts
since as long as I can remember. Therefore, seeing a subject that have the word
‘creative’ makes me really nervous.
So today we have our 1st class of this subject. Oh and did I
mention the full name of this subject? I haven’t, right? The code is ICT500,
and it’s called as Critical and Creative Thinking for Information Technology. I
am not expecting anything at first, what I just wanted and hope is that please
and please I just don’t want to be assigned with assessment at the first class,
like I need some times to digest myself about it. Oh and I got it wrong. Well
it’s not that bad actually.
We were introduced about this subject by our lecturer, Madam Fariza
Hanis (Dr) as soon as she arrived. This is when I realize what I imagine about
this class is mostly wrong. You know I tend to think creative is only for arts,
or for people who are born with it and not something you can learn throughout
your life. Probably not. Madam Fariza told us that not all creative people are
born with it. Some develop it while going through life, and creative that we
are learning in this class is more to the process of developing the creativity
itself.
Madam Fariza went through the course content and starts to alert us on
what kind of assignment and assessment that will be applied in this class. 1st
assignment is fun. It’s about writing the fun fact about myself, what I hate
and love about myself. There it is, storming the critical part of my brain
thinking what I really know about myself. Madam Fariza also told us to write an
online diary, be it blog, or any personal websites for us to let out our
thoughts about this subject. Here I am, writing my first entry and truly
letting out what I felt. Definitely fun since it’s been almost 6 years since I
last wrote up my online diary.
Oh and before I end my entry, Madam Fariza told us to figure out what
does IT really means? What is IT? Since we are the students of Bachelor in
Science (Hons.) Information Technology, it will be essential to know what is
exactly IT all about from our very 1st (well it’s actually 3rd
because we are from Diploma before) term in degree. Whoops, I myself are not
very sure of what IT is because all I can imagine is hardware and software and
programming language. Guess I will need to figure it out later.
Love, Bell 슈아.
